First day we are back and we have snow
blowing and swirling and temperatures dropping! We started right back into our
routine with our morning work and calendar time. Then on to specials: P.E.,
Library, and Guidance. While the students are in specials we are meeting as a
Professional Learning Community. Today, however, we opted to meet in grade
level teams and plan. We reviewed our Daily 5 procedures and what our next
steps would be in math , writing and theme. Our students are reading well at
this point and are continuing the Sing, Spell, Read and Write program. They are
progressing through the leveled books at their own individual pace. Our writing
will focus on direct instruction and practice with focus being on punctuation,
capitalization using the word wall to correctly spell those words and phonetic
spelling for unfamiliar words. In math we are moving into addition and
subtraction and assessing the students weekly on mastery of the Common Core
Standards.
Our theme currently is Systems. We are
focusing on weather and the water cycle in science and reviewing our system of
government and learning about holidays in social studies. 2014 is starting out
busy and we are moving forward in Kindergarten!
